Jacob Jordaens: Allegory Of Fertility (1618-1628)
(Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, Brussels, Belgium)
The last allegory this week. One of the best paintings of Jordaens. The central person in red is Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruitful abundance. She is main focus of attention. Around her stand several satyrs and nymphs who all pay tribute to her with all kinds of fruit and vegetables. Jordaens was greatly influenced by Peter Paul Rubens which shows on this painting. This painting is from 1618-1628
