François-Pascal-Simon Gérard: Portrait of Queen Joséphine of France in coronation costume (1807-1808)

This is a portrait of Joséphine de Beauharnais, the first wife of Napoleon I. Joséphine and Napoleon met in 1795 and married soon after this. The marriage didn't result in children and because of this Napoleon divorced Joséphine in 1809. Joséphine retired to Château de Malmaison and died in 1814 after catching a cold during a walk. Painting from 1807 - 1808.
