Paulus Potter: The Bull (1647)
(Mautitshuis, The Hague, The Netherlands)
Paulus Potter was a Dutch painter who specialized in animals within landscapes. The Bull is his most famous work. POtter put a lot of detail into the painting / the flies on the fur, the frog, the fur itself etc. The bull itself is not realistic but a collection of parts from bull from different ages. Painting something ordinary like a bull on this large painting (235,5 x 339 cm) is very unusual. Painting from 1647
