(Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA)
François Boucher (1703-1770) was an important French painter from the 18th century. His most important patron was Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour (better known as Madame de Pompadour), mistress of king Louis XV of France. This painting was commissioned by Madame de Pompadour for the dressing room at Bellevue, her château near Paris and shows the typical elegance of Boucher. Painting from 1751.
