Jean-Marc Nattier: Portrait of Princess Marie Adélaïde of France, Duchess of Louvois (1758)
(Palace of Versailles, Versailles, France)
Nattier was a French painter from the 18th century who produced a lot of portraits from French royalty. This portrait shows the fourth daughter and sixth child of King Louis XV of France and his Queen consort, Maria Leszczyńska. Marie Adélaïde (1732-1800) is 26 on the painting and remained unmarried for the rest of her life. She outlived all her other brothers and sisters and died at the age of 67 in Triest, Italy (after she left France when the French revolution broke out). Painting from 1758.
