Adriaen Pietersz. van de Venne: Ice skating owls (1620 - 1660)
(Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
A nice print from the Dutch artist Adriaen Pietersz. van de Venne (1587-1662). This engraving is an example of 'the upside down world' - a world in which animals are behaving like humans. Generally these type of prints mock certain human traits but in this case it is unknown (at least to me). The text at the top reads 'Hoe passen wy by een' or 'How do we fit with eachother'. Engraving from 1620-1660.
