Antonis Mor: Portrait of Sir Thomas Gresham (1560-1565)

A magnificent portrait by the Dutch painter Antonis Mor (1517-1577), also known as Anthonis Mor van Dashorst or Antonio Moro. The man on the painting is Thomas Gresham (1519-79). Thomas Gresham was the leading English merchant in Antwerp, the English king Edward VI (1547-1553) and the king's half-sisters, queens Mary I and Elizabeth I financial agent in the Low Countries. Gresham also founded in 1565 the Royal Exchange in the City of London and through his will the Gresham College. Painting from 1560 - 1565.
