Studio of François Boucher: Venus disarming Cupid (18th century)
(Private Collection)
This painting comes from the studio of the French artist François Boucher (1703-1770). Venus, goddess of Love, has disarmed Cupid, by taking away his arrows, that he uses when shooting at people to make them fall in love. The composition itself is a popular one in art and Boucher himself used the theme in several paintings. This work was commissioned by king Louis XV of France for the "appartement des bains" at the royal Château de Choisy. Painting from the 18th century.
