This portrait was commissioned as a set of 4, each portrait depicting a captain of 1 of the civic guard companies of Leiden, for the Doelen (the meeting hall and training grounds for a civic guard) in Leiden. This one, and the portrait of Claes Hendriksz. de Munt (see link below) have survived. Painting from 1657.
