Jacob van Oost (I): Portrait of a Bruges Family (1645)
(Musea Brugge-Groeningemuseum, Brugge, Belgium)
A large painting by the Flemish artist Jacob van Oost (1603-1671). The identity of this family is unknown but the silhouet of the town in the background is that of Brugge in Belgium so the family is probably also from that town. The man is pointing to his right to draw our attention to his possessions. Notice the red headband on the small child in the center - this headband protects the head of the child when it falls. Painting from 1645.
