(Museum Willet-Holthuysen, Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
A painting by the Dutch artist Pieter Fransz. de Grebber (1595-1652/53). The man on the left with raised right hand is the Dutch writer and poet Theodorus Schrevelius (1572-1649), the latin version of his name Dirk Schrevel. Theodorus Schrevelius was the assistant director (later director) of the Latin school in Haarlem and later director of the Latin school in Leiden. Schrevelius produced several books of which his Harlemias, or history of Haarlem, is the most important one. He is depicted here with his wife Maria (Marijcke) van Teylingen (1570-1653, the woman sitting next to him) and several of their children - Theodorus and Maria got at least 7 children: Brigitta Schrevelius (1600-...); Maria Schrevelius (1602-1653); Augustinus Schrevelius (1605-...); Andreas Schrevelius (1606-...); Cornelis Schrevelius (1608-1661), Eva Schrevelius (1610-...) and Theodora Schrevelius (1617-...). Painting from 1625.
