A painting by the Russian artist Ilya Repin (1844–1930). The painting shows a scene from everyday life in Russia - in this case a religious procession. This the annual Eastern procession which carries the 'Our Lady of Kursk' icon (a 13th century icon made by Theotokos of Kursk) from the abbey of the Korennaya Monastery to the city of Kursk. The procession consists people of a wide range of social status: orthodox priests, police, military officers, the provincial elite, peasants and beggars. Painting from 1880-1883.
