A painting by the British artist William Frederick Yeames (1835-1918). This historical piece shows a scene during the English Civil War (1642–1651). This civil war pitted the supporters of King Charles I of England (known as ' the royalists) against the supporters of the Parliament of England (known as 'the Parliamentarians'). Here we see an imaginary Royalist household. The Parliamentarians have taken over the house and question a young boy (modeled after the painting The Blue Boy by Thomas Gainsborough) about his Royalist father. Behing the young boy his sister awaits questioning while in the back the mother and another sister are anxiously watching the interrogation. The girl behind the boy was modeled after Mary Yeames, a niece of the artist), Painting from 1878.
