Cornelis Galle I: Hunting ducks (1594 - 1598)

(Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands)

An engraving by the Flemish artist Cornelis Galle I (1576-1650). This print comes from a set of various hunting scenes. This piece shows a hunting scene of several native Americans. They camouflage themselves by means of a hollowed out pumpkin and hide themselves in the water. Food is placed upon the pumpkins which attracts the ducks who will sit on the pumpkin, making them an easy prey. The latin text at the bottom explains the hunting method. Engraving from 1594-1598.
