François Desprez: The sea-bishop and sea-monk (1564)

Two woodcuts made the French artist François Desprez (1530-1587). This two pieces come from the book "Recueil de la diversité des habits, qui sont de présent en usage, tant es pays d'Europe, Asie, Affrique & isles sauvages" (= A Collection of the Various Styles of Clothing which are now in use, In Europe, Asia, Africa and the wild lands). The book is a costume book with about 120 depictions of clothing from around the world. These two woodcuts show sea monsters: a sea-bishop and a sea-monk. Book from 1564.
