An engraving by the Dutch artist Dirck Volckertsz. Coornhert (1522-1590). This print is part of a set of fourteen prints dedicated to the 'road to eternal salvation'. Depicted here is an allegory of a man who is carrying a cross on his back - He personifies the persecution of true Christians. The man is holding an anchor in his right hand - the symbol of hope. Engraving from around 1550.
