Edward Burne-Jones: King Cophetua and the Beggar Maid (1884)

A painting by the English artist Edward Burne-Jones (1833-1898). This piece shows a 16th century story. According to the tale the African king Cophetua was struck by love at first sight when he saw the young beggar Penelophon. Eventually the couple gets married and lives happily ever after.
