Aert Pietersz.: The Last Judgment (1611)

A painting by the Dutch artist Aert Pietersz (1550–1612). This large piece shows the last judgement and the Second Coming of Christ. Christ can be seen in the heaven, surrounded by saints and angels who carry the Instruments of the Passion. At the bottom half on earth, the dead are rising from their graves with the archangel saint Michael in the center. The souls who are saved can be seen walking to the left and the damned souls to the right. In each corner are the symbols of the four Evangelists (a man - Matthew, winged lion - Mark, winged ox - Luke, and an eagle - John). Painting from 1611.
