(Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum, Braunschweig, Germany)
A painting by the French artist Nicolas de Largillière (1656 – 1746). Konrad Detlef , count of Dehn (1688-1753) was the son of a Danish officer who joined the court of Duke Anton Ulrich von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel at the age of 15. Under Anton Ulrich's son, August Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, Konrad was quickly promoted up the ranks of government offices and became one of the most powerful men at the Brunswick ducal court. As a favorite of August Wilhelm, he served as a minister and a diplomat. Konrad also built and lived lavishly, and amassed a collection of more than five hundred paintings. In 1730 Konrad was dismissed from the court, the result of embezzlement and years of too-obvious favoritism and after the death of August Wilhelm a year later he had to leave the country. Konrad joined the court of the Danish king and worked as a Danish envoy in St. Petersburg, Madrid, and The Hague. Painting from 1724.
