Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn: Old man in an armchair (1652)
(National Gallery, London, UK)
A painting made by the Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669). In the 1650s Rembrandt turned increasingly to the depiction of aged men and women. This painting is a good example of this. If this is a portrait or a depiction of a random person is not known although Rembrandt depicted him also on another painting (an old man in Red, now in the Hermitage). Painting from 1652.
