Cosmè Tura: Portrait of a young man (1470s)

A painting by the Italian artist Cosmè (or Cosimo) Tura (1430 – 1495). Cosmè Tura was a court artist at the Italian city of Ferrara. This portrait shows an unidentified member of the ruling Este family. The small, narrow format would have enabled the picture to be slipped into a leather or parchment case and carried about. Painting from the 1470s.
