A painting by the English artist Joseph Wright of Derby (1734-1797). Peter Perez Burdett (1734-1793) was a cartographer, scientist/engineer, surveyor, artist, and draughtsman originally from Eastwood in Essex. Besides appearing in many paintings of Joseph Wright, Burdett was actively involved in numerous projects including surveying the route the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Painting from 1765.
