Master of Soriguerola: Two Altar side panels (13th century)

Two panels painted by the Spanish artist 'Master of Soriguerola". These panels come from the church of Sant Miquel in Soriguerola, Spain. The left panel shows 'the weighing of souls', also known as the psychostasis. The Archangel Michael is holding a scale in which a person is sitting and a demon. A smaller demon is trying to make the scales tip with a hook over to the side of the devil. On the right is the apostle Saint Peter (with the 2 keys) and Saint Paul (with the sword). Painting from the Late 13th century.
