A woodcut made by the Japanese artist Toshusai Sharaku (active 1794–1795). This print shows the kabuki actor Otani Oniji III in the role of Yakko Edobei, from the play "The Colored Reins of a Loving Wife" (Koi nyōbō somewake tazuna). Edobei is a wicked henchman (a yakko was a samurai's attendant, often used for violent deeds).. Print from 1794.
