Anonymous: Exposition Universelle of Paris (1889)
(Musée Carnavalet, Paris, France)
A drawing made by an unknown French artist. This drawing is a poster for the world's fair of 1889, which was held in Paris, France, from 6 May to 31 October 1889. The fair was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Storming of the Bastille, which marked the beginning of the French Revolution. The Exposition occupied two large sites: the main site was on Champs de Mars (shown here) and a smaller site on the esplanade of Les Invalides. On the Champs de Mars was the Eiffel Tower, Palace of Machines, and the Palaces of Fine Arts and Liberal Arts. The Eiffel Tower was specially built for this fair and functioned as the world's fair entrance. The fair attracted more than thirty-two million visitors. Drawing from 1889.
