Joos van Craesbeeck: The smoker (1635-1636)

(Louvre Museum, Paris, France)

Joos van Craesbeeck (1605/06-1660) was a Flemish painter who made several genre paintings, influenced by the Dutch artists at that time. This painting is a good example of a tronie (Dutch for 'face'). A tronie is a painting of a random face, usually with an exaggerated facial expression or in a costume. Painting from 1635-1636.
