Jheronimus Bosch: The Garden of Earthly Delights (1490-1510)

(Museo del Prado, Madrid, Spain)

Post number 500! Because of this a post about 1 of my favorite paintings. The Garden of Earthly Delights, the best known painting of Jheronimus Bosch (1450-1516). This triptych wasn't intended as an altarpiece but rather a show-piece. The painting was commissioned by either count Engelbert II of Nassau (1451-1504) or his nephew Count Henry III of Nassau-Dillenburg-Dietz (1483-1538) - both art collectors.
The painting is divided into three panels, each with its own subject but all of them linked together. As the entire triptych is very complex i will discuss each panel seperatly:

Left panel: The Garden of Eden
Center panel: Earth
Right panel: Hell

Painting from 1490-1510
