Juan de Flandes: Saint James the Greater (1507)

A piece by the Flemish artist Juan de Flandes (1465-1519). The painting shows the apostle and martyr James, son of Zebedee (also known as 'James the Greater to distinguish him from James, son of Alphaeus). The apostle is shown as a pilgrim with a pilgrim's staff and he has his emblem, the scallop shell, on the front brim of the hat. Painting from 1507.
