Wallerant Vaillant: Portrait of Maria van Oosterwijck (1671)

(Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands)

A nice portrait by the Dutch artist Wallerant Vaillant (1625-1677). The woman on this painting is Maria Jacobsdr. van Oosterwijck (1630-1693) who was a painter from Nootdorp and was specialized in flower paintings and other still lifes (the book she is holding is a bible). Maria van Oosterwijck was a populair painter in her time and her work was in high demand by the upper class in the Netherlands and European nobility. Painting from 1671
