Caesar Boëtius van Everdingen: Girl with a Large Hat (1645-1650)
(Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
A painting by the Dutch artist Caesar Boëtius van Everdingen (1616-1678). This painting is not a portrait but propably an allegory - it is suspected that it represents the summer and that it is a pendant of the painting 'A Young Woman Warming her Hands over a Brazier: allegory of winter' by Everdingen. The fruit she is holding in the basket are plums, a symbol of lust and sexuality. Painting from 1645-1650.
