Monogrammist AP: Brothel Scene (1540)
(Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
a large engraving by an unknown German artist with the Notname Monogrammist AP (active in the 16th century). This large engraving shows the interior of a brothel with people engaged in numerous activities: drinking, sexual activities, fighting, visitors are being robbed from their money purse (lower right corner). Even the staff of the brothel is corrupt and is writing with a piece of chalk with 2 points (lower right corner, she writes more drinks on the bill of the customer). God himself can be seen in the upper left corner - he has turned his back to the entire scene, too much sin is going on here. engraving from around 1540.
