Pieter Bruegel the Elder: The Adoration of the Kings (1564)

(The National Gallery, London, UK)

A painting by the Flemish artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1525 – 1569). The subject of the painting is a typical adoration of the kings (or 'Magi' as they are usually known). The three kings with their retinue of servants and soldiers (very unusual in a 'adoration scene) are all cropped around the infant Christ who literally is the exact center of the painting. Nice detail - one of the servant at the right with the blue cap is wearing spectacles. Painting from 1564.
