Pieter Aertsen: The pancake bakery (1560)

A painting by the Dutch artist Pieter Aertsen (1508 - 1575). Aertsen specialized in genre scenes like these. In this painting a peasant family are seen making pancakes and waffles. These types of food were usually eaten around Shrovetide so i could be that the family is preparing for the coming festivities although there are no other references to that festivity. It looks like the painting is probably just a representation of a peasant family having diner. Painting from 1560.
