Albrecht Dürer: The walk (1498)

(Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, The Netherlands)

A nice engraving by the German artist Albrecht Dürer (1471 - 1528) of a couple walking in a landscape. The clothing of the woman indicates that she is married and the man looks younger. this may indicate that this is a 'unequal love'. In the art this means that the man and the woman are not of the same age - usually a young man with an old and ugly woman who is rich or the other way around. hiding behind a tree on the right is Death with a hourglass - this refers to the transience of existence. engraving from 1498.
