Vincenzo Foppa: Madonna and Child (1462)

(Princeton University Art Museum, Princeton, USA)

A painting by the Italian artist Vincenzo Foppa (1430-1515). This piece used to be part of a polyptych which was commission for the abbey of Morimondo near Milan. As was common with polyptychs, this altarpiece was broken up in the early 19th century. This piece, a Madonna and child with two angels and in the left corner a donor, was the central part. Two other parts with two pairs of Saints are in the State Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg, while the other is in a private collection. Painting from 1462.
