Pierre-Auguste Renoir: Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette (1876)

(Musée d'Orsay, Paris, France)

A painting by the French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919). This piece, one of two versions, shows a Sunday afternoon at the original Moulin de la Galette in the district of Montmartre in Paris - a popular spot for Parisians to enjoy themselves. Men and women are dancing, drinking and talking to each other. Renoir made this painting on the spot and the depicted people are a mix of locals, friends of Renoir and some of his models. Painting from 1876.
