Edgar Degas: Waiting (1880–1882)

(J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, USA)

A painting by the French artist Edgar Degas (1834-1917). Ballerinas were always a favorite subject of Degas. This is an early example and depicts a ballerina accompanied by her chaperone. The ballerina is bent over ostensibly to massage her foot but her body language also indicates a person who is racked with anticipation before she takes the stage. Painting from 1880-1882.
