Frans Pourbus the Elder: Portrait of George, 7th Lord Seton and his Family (1572)

A painting by the Flemish artist Frans Pourbus the Elder (1545-1581). George Seton V, 7th Lord Seton (1531–1586) was a high ranking Scottish noble. He was Lord of the Parliament of Scotland, Master of the Household of Mary Stuart (1542-1587), Queen of Scots and Provost of Edinburgh. As master of the Household of Mary Stuart he was a loyal supporter of her and helped her escape several times. George Seton acted as Mary Stuart's ambassador to the Duke of Alva in the Spanish Netherlands. This painting was made this period. The piece show George surrounded by his four sons and one daughter. Painting from 1572.
