A painting by the French artist Alexis-Simon Belle (1674-1734). A typical portrait of a French officer at the time of king Louis XIV of France (1638 – 1715). The man on this painting is Charles Francois Marie de Custine, Chevalier de Wiltz (d.1738), son of François Théodore de Custine, comte de Wiltz, and Françoise Angélique de Choiseul. He served as grand ecuyer de Lorraine (Grand Squire of Lorraine) and colonel of the French cavalry regiment, "Stanislas-Roi" later known as the Royal-Pologne Regiment. Painting from 1714.
