(Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA)

A painting by the Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669). Gerard de Lairesse (1641–1711) was a Dutch painter and art theorist. He suffered from congenital syphilis, which caused him to go blind about 1690. The effects of the disease is already visible on this portrait: his swollen features and bulbous saddle nose. Painting from 1665-1667.
