Gesina ter Borch: Portrait of Moses ter Borch (1670)

A watercolor made by the Dutch artist Gesina ter Borch (1631-1690). Gesina ter Borch was the sister of Gerard ter Borch (II) (1617-1681). Just like her brother Gerard, Gesina was also an artist and she even often was a model for her brother. Gesina made an album of watercolors which consists of a wide array of subjects, including portraits of her family. This piece is a copy of a painting of Gerard ter Borch (II) and shows a younger brother of Gesina and Gerard - Moses ter Borch (1645-1667). Moses also was an artist but he joined the Dutch navy when he was 20. Moses was died during the Raid on the Medway (19–24 June 1667) when he was killed by an English sniper. Painting from 1670.
