Hieronymus Wierix: The four enemies of a true believer (1570 - 1601)

An engraving by the Flemish artist Hieronymus Wierix (1553-1619), after a design by the Flemish artist Maerten de Vos (1532-1603). This piece is an allegorical piece of faith. Seated in the center is the female personification of a righteous Christian. She is attacked by four enemies: death, heresy, the world (= earthly possessions) and the devil. Engraving from 1570-1601.
