Katsushika Hokusai: Fine Wind, Clear Morning (1830)

(Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis, USA)

A wood block print by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849). This print is part of the famous set Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. The set consists of 46 prints (10 of them were added after the initial publication) of Mount Fuji from different locations and in various seasons and weather condition - the print "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" is also a part of this set. This piece shows mount Fuji in early Autumn. When the wind is southerly and the sky is clear, the rising sun can turn Mount Fuji red which Hokusai shows here. Wood block from 1830.
